Decorating for the Holidays

I’m getting so excited to decorate for the holidays!  I have so many Christmas/winter decorations that this house will actually look full!  We don’t have tons of every day decorations so it will be nice to see pretty knick knacks everywhere.  I can’t wait to get the tree up!  I’m still working on the tree skirt but at the rate I’m going, it shouldn’t take too long to get it finished.

Over the weekend, Lloyd got the storage shelves built and we were able to get everything organized and put away.  My craft room is still a mess though.  I forgot I have so many things to work on.  I still have lots of jewelry to make and also a couple of pillows for Lauryn.  The pillows will be made from a medical uniform, like nurse’s scrubs, that were covered in teddy bears.  Once that room is all organized I’ll be able to see all the projects I’ve been wanting to work on and really attack them! :)

Curious as Cat

Curious Cat.
…curiouser and curiouser…

1) A man knocks on your door. He says he’s from the future—and he can prove it. More important, he says he has information that will save your life. Describe what happens next.

I tell him the same thing I tell everyone else who randomly comes to my door.  “No thanks, I’m not interested.”  People freak me out! :)

2) Where would you go to ring in the end of the world? Why’s this literally the last place on Earth you’d celebrate?

My house :)   This is where I’d love to be because we’ve only been here a couple of weeks and I LOVE it!!!

3) What household project do you keep putting off? How long have you done so? Will it ever get done?

Organizing my closet.  When we moved in, there were a bunch of bags of clothes that just got put at the bottom of the closet and I still haven’t taken care of them.  It will get done soon!

4) Show and Tell. What comes to mind first when you see this picture? Or, tell a story if it reminds you of one.

This reminds me of some ancient Greek statue.  It’s kind of creepy.

Weekend In Review

Weekend In Review

Friday ~ Did a little light cleaning, got ready and ran to the store.  Mom came over for the first “Nana Friday” since we moved here.  We had spaghetti and meatballs with breadsticks for dinner and we talked about these eyelash growth products reviews we’ve recently seen.  I’m happy to just stick with the brand of mascara I’ve been using for years :)

Saturday ~ Got jerky in the dehydrator early, then made bacon and egg and cheese biscuits for breakfast.  A friend of ours came over for a visit and then we grabbed some burgers for dinner.  For the rest of the evening, I worked on my crocheted Christmas tree skirt.  I’m determined to get it done soon so I can get the tree up.  :)

Sunday ~ Not a very productive day at all!  I made banana pancakes, fried potatoes and onions and bacon for breakfast but even that didn’t happen until 11:30 am :)   Cleaned up after breakfast, crocheted, took a nap when Lauryn did because my stomach was a mess and then when I got up, I helped Lloyd move some boxes from the family room in the basement to the storage area.  We had leftovers for dinner.  Then the rest of the evening was just as unproductive as the first part of the day.

Catching Up

It feels like it’s been ages since I’ve been on my blog.  Time to do some catching up!  We have been in the new house for just under two weeks now and it’s really starting to feel like home.  The main floor is pretty well taken care of but anyone who goes down to the basement will see tons and tons of boxes that still need to be put away.  I LOVE my kitchen!  I love cooking in it, cleaning it up and sitting at the bar to visit.  It’s easily my favorite room in the house.  We’ll eventually be making some cosmetic changes to a few rooms but those things will get done in time.

Lauryn was the cutest Minnie Mouse ever for Halloween :)   She was thrilled to finally be able to wear her costume and to go trick-or-treating for the very first time.  Don’t get me wrong, she’s gone before but since she was so young, I took her around to family’s houses and the neighbors.  This year, she walked the neighborhood.  Our friends, Ed and Michelle, came over with there boys and Michelle and I took the kids while the guys stayed home and passed out candy.  Afterward, Lauryn and I headed to my aunts house and to my brother and sister-in-laws.  She was exhausted by the time we got home and fell asleep on the couch.

Lauryn turned three on November 2nd.  When Lloyd got home from work he brought flowers and she was so happy!  She decided she wanted lasagna (“sagna” in Lauryn terms) for her birthday dinner and we let her open a present from us and one that Kathye dropped off.  We got her a microphone and she LOVES it!  She walks around singing her own little songs all the time :)

Last Saturday, she and I had a special afternoon.  I took her to the mall to get her ears pierced and then we went to lunch at Applebee’s.  She did cry for a minute after the ladies did her ears but then she was happy again and thrilled to go out to eat with Mama :)   She loves her earrings and I’m really glad we had it done.   She has little diamonds with white gold posts and they are adorable!  I tried getting a couple of pictures but so far she’s managed to turn her head or her hair gets in the way so I’ll have to post a picture later.

On Sunday, we had her birthday party.  Her Nana, Grandma, Grandpa, Great Grandma, Uncle Shane, Aunt Trisha, Emma, Uncle Jake and Gus came to celebrate.  I had snacks set out – cheeses, crackers, summer sausage, carrots, celery, cucumber, red pepper and dip – and then made creamy pasta and breadsticks for dinner.  Lauryn wanted chocolate fudge cake with milk chocolate frosting so that’s what I made. All in all I think she had a pretty great birthday :)

Writing sketch comedies and novels about impersonators

1) With National Plan Your Epitaph Day being celebrated this week, what would you like to have written on your gravestone?
I guess just the usual….Wife, mother, etc.
2) This week, some churches and dentists across the U.S. “bought back” unwanted Halloween candy, many of them sending the candy purchased overseas to deployed soldiers. What would you do with candy you were given that you didn’t want?
Set it out for company :)
3) What do you do with mail that comes to your home addressed to past residents (forward it, trash it, open it, line your bird’s cage with it, etc.)?
Write on it that the person no longer lives here and put it back in the mail box.
4) November is National Novel Writing Month, and thousands of writers will try to start and complete an entire novel by Nov. 31. If you were to write a book this month, what would the topic be?
My life with my husband and daughter.
5) Last week Fox announced that an updated version of its 1990-94 sketch comedy show “In Living Color” will be created and will air this spring. What do you think of sketch comedy?
It can be funny….I loved “In Living Color” when I was a kid :)
6) If you were on a trip to Los Angeles and took a walk down Hollywood Boulevard, would you want to have your photo taken with any of the impersonators who patrol the street? (The impersonators include people dressed up as real people like Elvis, Marilyn Monroe and Lady Gaga and as fictional characters from comic books, movies/TV shows, and cartoons.)
Sure, why not? :)
7) Do you have nicknames for any of your neighbors which you use to describe them to other people?
Not really.  We just moved to this neighborhood a few days ago and don’t know any of the neighbors well.  We didn’t have any nicknames for our previous neighbors.
8) Speaking of your neighbors… have any of your neighbors ever witnessed you doing something embarrassing (or vice versa)?
Not that I know of and I can’t say I’ve seen the neighbors doing anything embarrassing.
